Post's Island

Post's Island is located in the Moshannon Creek in Cooper Township, PA, near the former mining community of Peale. The Moravian history of this area is recorded in the island's name. In 1758, the Moravian missionary, Christian Friedrich Post, camped on the island as he traveled along the Great Shamokin Path with western Delaware representatives Pisquetomen and Keekyuscung to the town of Kuskusky (New Castle) with wampum belts from the Pennsylvania government in Philadelphia and eastern Delaware tribes. Post described the area around the Moshannon Creek in his travel diary as “wild, broken, and mountainous.”
